How You Can Make an Appointment to See a Counseller

Here at Living Life Counselling we believe in making access to our services as easy as is possible for a client. If you wish to make an appointment with us, please follow the simple steps listed below.

Please note all clients over 18 years of age must personally phone our centre to make their appointment. If you are the parent or guardian of a minor you may call on their behalf. We are always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have about counselling so please feel free to call us. With many years experience in the professional counselling field all staff at Living Life Counselling appreciate that taking the first step and picking up the phone to ring us can be very difficult. It is our goal to ensure that we make this experience a positive one for you. Before returning your call or writing to your home address Living Life Counselling staff will always check with you that this is an acceptable form of contact and one which you are happy to engage in.

Our Bray centre is wheelchair accessible, adapted for those with disabilities and has counselling rooms on both ground and upper levels. For counselling services in both our Bray and Arklow centres, please call: 01-286-6729.

When you call our centre, we will take your details and schedule an initial assessment for a date and time that best suits your availability.

You will receive a letter by post after your phone call confirming the date and time of your assessment and other information such as our confidentiality policy and client agreement form. We would kindly ask you to cancel your appointment in advance if you are unable to attend.

Your initial assessment usually lasts between 30-45 minutes. This is not a counselling session but rather an opportunity to explore if counselling is the correct option for you at this time in your life. To ask any questions you may have on the process and explore some of the reasons you wish to commence counselling. If after this first meeting you decide not to go ahead with counselling this is not a problem, there is no commitment to attend counselling at this stage in the process.

If you make the decision to continue, you will return to commence weekly counselling sessions with a volunteer counsellor. You will be placed on our waiting list while the staff counsellor that you met at your initial assessment seeks the skills and availability of the next most appropriate volunteer counsellor to meet your specific needs. You will be matched as per your availability and counsellor vacancies at the centre you wish to attend. This matching process may take up to 6 weeks.

Once you have been matched with a counsellor, we will phone and provide you with all the relevant details necessary for your first counselling session.

Please note clients are offered a weekly appointment for a period of between 6-8 weeks until your first review is completed, and thereafter no longer than 6 months. Your session will be at the same time on the same day each week for 50 minutes and we ask you to please notify us 24hrs in advance if you need to cancel, there is a late cancellation fee that applies if you fail to do so.
